Here at last!

sunny 28 °C

Well, I finally made it! It was over 44 hrs from Calgary to Sydney and then another 3 hour drive to Canberra where I'm currently residing. I got to enjoy a long stopover in Singapore where the airline provided a tour of the city. Picture 060.jpgPicture 056.jpgSingapore is a multicultural city with Chinese, Indians, and Malays, making up the majority. Luckily I managed to arrive just as all 3 groups were getting ready for their annual festivals to celebrate their heritage. The decorations in the street were amazing...full of colour and vibrance. Picture 065.jpgPicture 067.jpgPicture 063.jpgPicture 068.jpgThe flowers were equally amazing and the city itself was unbelievably clean. Picture 070.jpgPicture 072.jpgThe airport itself was also very beautiful with lots of little gardens throughout.Picture 075.jpgPicture 076.jpgPicture 077.jpg My favorite; however, had to be the rooftop pool and jacuzzi with a bar, and since the weather was a nice 32C, I spent some time relaxing up there.expchangi2.jpg It's definately a place I'd like to visit again someday!

I flew into Sydney just as the sun was rising over the Tasman sea.Picture 079.jpgPicture 081.jpgPicture 040.jpg I had no idea what time or what day it was when I arrived and was completely exhausted. Now, after a good 17 hr nap I'm feeling much better and am settling into the Aussie way. I'm staying with a friend I met the summer I spent on Vancouver Island. She's working during the days so I really haven't had a chance to see much yet. I took a stroll yesterday but after the gigantic magpie's starting stalking me I decided I better head back. Apparently they swoop down and try to peck at your head....I've been told to keep my face down otherwise they'll go for the eyes. Canberra also has 7 of the 10 most deadliest snakes in the world, so I'm keeping my distance from long grass. I really haven't seen much of the wildlife. We could see some kangaroos way off in the distance on the drive from Sydney and one up close (unfortunately it was because he was roadkill). I have seen some beautiful birds...cockatoos and rosella's. This weekend we'll be going to the annual tulip festival and I'll get to see more of the city.

That's really all my news for now. I'll probably stay here for another week or so and then head up north to the beaches and maybe meeting up with a friend for some partying. I'll keep everyone updated as to my whereabouts and adventures!
